Much discussion is being had as to the true health of the UK’s high streets. Whilst many are seeing record numbers of vacancies, there are others where retailers are seeking to expand and rents are moving upwards.

Successive governments have encouraged out of town retailing and this, coupled with the effects of internet shopping, has affected the high streets. However consumers continue to purchase goods, although their method of doing so has changed over the last 10 years. In providing advice to clients on purchasing and selling retail investments in the UK, we believe that there remain good opportunities to purchase worthwhile high street properties. The line up of tenants in a typical high street is changing but there remains a place for high street retailing. Many types of goods are not successfully sold through catalogues or the internet.
