Expectations from Victoria Office Space

Nestled in the heart of Westminster and named after Victoria Station, one of London's most significant transport hubs, Victoria SW1 is a notable district of our Capital city, buoyed by an incredibly rich history. But, what can you expect from an office space in Victoria? Let's find out in our latest guide to the area.

With Buckingham Palace literally the first sight that appears on exiting the sprawling station, it quickly becomes apparent that Victoria is one of the key places to be. You'll find everything you need, whether you're there for work, or looking to enjoy some of London's very finest places to eat, drink, rest or shop.

Situated east of Belgravia, Victoria is something of a petite area in itself. Still, it certainly rubs shoulders with a line-up of very impressive neighbours, including some notable business ones. Google UK and the Telegraph are headquartered here and, as a result, an array of commercial retail centres have sprung up. Local amenities serve the workforces well with a vast choice of shopping opportunities, as well as dining options offering everything from healthy fast food to Michelin-starred establishments.

An interesting history

Victoria once formed part of the St George Hanover Square parish and housed an extensive brewery from the 17th century, right up to its demolition in the 1950s.

Unnoticed for some time and considered just an in-between space connecting the affluent areas of Belgravia and Knightsbridge, Victoria's reputation was finally transformed when the railway station was built in 1860. With the existing London stations failing to provide much-desired routes to south coast seaside resorts, London Victoria quickly became a popular transport centre, especially following the merger in 1920 of what had for 60 years effectively been two stations split by competing rail companies.

Victoria Station… and beyond

Dating back to the 1860s and formerly known as the 'Grosvenor Terminus', having been constructed on the site of the Grosvenor Canal basin, Victoria Station was eventually named after the nearby Victoria Street, which in turn took its moniker from Queen Victoria.

The now-sprawling 19-platform station has developed considerably over the years. It is home to Victoria Place, a thriving complex sporting a host of popular retail brands and a variety of well-known eateries. But shopping and dining are of course just an added bonus, as the station is what makes Victoria is one of the best-served locations in the Capital.

Canterbury, Brighton, Guildford and Epsom are all accessible via Victoria's mainline services, as are many of the popular coastal resorts of England's south coast, such as Eastbourne. The Gatwick Express ferries passengers to the airport within just 30 minutes.

Also running from Victoria Station are the London Underground Victoria, District and Circle lines, making this station a truly ultra-connected hub. And if that wasn't enough, Victoria Coach Station is served by numerous coach operators providing access to cities across the UK and into Europe, from Edinburgh to Exeter and Amsterdam.

Outside of Victoria Station, the district itself is incredibly well-connected, with a number of London Underground stations scattered throughout the area:

  • Green Park - Piccadilly, Victoria, Jubilee Lines
  • Piccadilly - Bakerloo, Piccadilly Lines
  • Knightsbridge and Hyde Park Corner – Piccadilly Line
  • St James's Park - District, Circle Lines
  • Westminster - Jubilee, District, Circle Lines
  • Sloane Square - District, Circle Lines
