The government is unlikely to engage in any relocation of its
central London offices for around four to five years.
Such is the suggestion of CoStar News, which revealed that a senior regional head at the Government Property Unit (GPU) stated there are few benefits to be derived from moving offices until between 2015 and 2016.
This is when the next lot of "lease events" are scheduled to happen, he said. Locations that were lined up for new government
London offices included Croydon and Stratford.
Assets owned in Croydon consist of the 180,000 sq ft Wellesley Grove Southern House and Land Registry-occupied Trafalgar House. However, the Home Office is planning to scale back the properties it holds in the town, delivering 400,000 sq ft of Grade B
London offices on to the market.
In order to multi-share buildings, the GPU was going to place different departments into one location, the property publication noted.
Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude recently explained that since May 2010, the government has exited 36
central London offices due to the space being out of date and inefficient.
