Plans have been submitted by Imperial College for new west
London offices.
The university wants to redevelop the former BBC base at Wood Lane in White City into mixed-use space, which will include commercial premises, residential units and research and academic facilities, Construction Enquirer reported.
Under the proposals - which cover 87,900 sq m of space - a new residential tower block comprising 30 storeys would be built, along with a four-star hotel, premises for start-up technology firms and a new London square that would be of a similar size to Soho Square.
The scheme would be known as Imperial West, the online construction publication said.
Project director for Imperial West John Anderson was noted as saying: "We have refined the designs of the residential building, the academic health building and the office building to respond positively to residents' comments, as well as to the requirements of the planning authorities and Greater London Authority."
In September, Imperial College revealed it was launching a consultation for its plans, which also include new local services such as healthcare, pharmacy and retail.
The BBC is currently looking to downsize its west
London offices as more staff relocate to MediaCityUK in Salford.
Its White City Television Centre was put up for sale, comprising five main buildings on 14 acres of land. Former
London offices at 35 Marylebone Street were also sold by the broadcaster.
Mr Anderson added that following the success of the university's new site in south Kensington, Imperial College wants to deliver further facilities to expand upon its "world-class research and teaching".
The first part of a project to construct four, ten-storey student accommodation blocks at the White City site is currently underway, with contractor ISG expected to finish this phase in August this year.
