The Fitzrovia Attraction: What makes office space in Fitzrovia the Upcoming Trend

The area known as Fitzrovia in London W1 is filled with galleries, hotels, traditional pubs and lively bistros and cafés. Overflowing with history, it’s a place that’s become home to many advertising, new media and architectural companies, all nestled in the shadow of the iconic BT Tower. In this guide, we’ll be exploring this West London district, and taking a look at what’s on offer for the business seeking office space Fitzrovia wide.

About Fitzrovia

Marked by notable 18th and 19th century apartment buildings, Fitzrovia sits around a mile north of Trafalgar Square, spanning both the London Borough of Camden, and the City of Westminster.

The area is known as a quartier; a city district with a blend of residential, retail, business, education, healthcare and art galleries. City landmark the BT Tower, looming some 189 metres tall, rises from the centre of the neighbourhood.

Covering the postcode areas W1, WC1 and NW1, well known streets in Fitzrovia include Tottenham Court Road, Goodge Street, Charlotte Street, Fitzroy Square, Great Titchfield Street and Great Portland Street. University College London (UCL) has several buildings in the area, as does the University of Westminster.

Fitzrovia was first named during the 1930s, taking its moniker from the Fitzroy Tavern on Charlotte Street where a group of writers would gather. Before that time it was without its own identify, and was instead known by its major streets and places such as Tottenham Court Road and Fitzroy Square, or simply ‘part of the West End’. Further back in time, historian E Beresford Chancellor referred to it as London’s Old Latin Quarter.

Who owns or rents office space in Fitzrovia?

A number of media organisations have made Fitzrovia home. The BBC’s New Broadcasting House and other BBC buildings sit on the western boundary of the neighbourhood, and various advertising, design, public relations and digital media companies are based here. The film and music and architectural and engineering industries are also well represented, taking advantage of the rich choice of offices to let in Fitzrovia.

In Great Portland Street and Great Titchfield Street, there are still a variety of ‘rag trade’ showrooms, and you’ll also find a good few independent tailors here too.

Serving the offices to let in Fitzrovia are dozens of public houses, together with an array of restaurants, cafés and bars.
